Your local parish should have confessions at least once a week. Christ touches our life through each priest, whoever he is and every priest will keep your confession absolutely secret for the rest of his life. But what matters is the presence of Jesus in our life through the ministry of the priest, and not the personality of the priest. Priests are all different and some we like more than others. Remember that it is the Lord we meet in confession. However long it has been, however bad the sin, however embarrassed you feel – don’t let anything stop you from going to confession. But don’t let nerves or fear hold you back.

Sometimes we get nervous about going to confession. If you want to know more about the kind of life we should be living as Christians, and what sins we should be avoiding, see the ‘Examination of Conscience’ below. Here is the traditional way of making a confession, which has the very basics of what we need to know and say. Amen. There are variations in the way different priests celebrate the sacrament of confession, and they will sometimes introduce different prayers and scripture readings. We thank you for the wonders of your mercy and with heart and hand and voice we join with the whole Church in a new song of praise: Glory to you through Christ in the Holy Spirit now and forever. You constantly renew our spirit in the sacrament of your redeeming love, freeing us from slavery to sin and transforming us ever more closely into the likeness of your beloved Son. You sent the Holy Spirit into our hearts to make us your children and heirs to your kingdom. You sent your Son into the world to destroy sin and death by his passion, and to restore life and joy by his resurrection. You do not abandon the sinner but seek him out with a father's love. He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children for ever.Īlmighty and wonderful God, how wonderfully you created man and still more wonderfully remade him. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. From this day all generations will call me blessed: The Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name. My spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord. Say your penance and add the Magnificat or prayer of thanksgiving. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. But most of all, because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all good and deserving of all my love. O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell.

The penitent says: "Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned." You then say how long it has been since your lst Confession. The Sacrament of Reconciliation ( Confession) will be from Monday to Friday during 9am and 7pm mass and on Saturday during the 8.30am mass. Those who approach the sacrament of Reconciliation obtain pardon from God's mercy for the offenses committed against Him and are at the same time reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their conversion.
